Grounds for election
Loy is Assistant Professor at Durham, specialising in ancient Greek material and visual culture. He was previously Assistant Director at the British School at Athens (2019–2022) and a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship at Cambridge (2023–2024). His monograph Connecting Communities in Archaic Greece (CUP, 2023), pioneers a new methodological approach for synthesising and analysing the ‘Big Data’ archaeology of Greece. Between 2021 and 2024, he co-directed an intensive pedestrian landscape survey on the Greek island of Samos, where he was also field director for three years and led on the design, implementation and analysis of born-digital documentation in the field. Before that he was a crucial member of the Canterbury Hinterland Project landscape survey team. He is prolific in publication (32 articles as author/co-author, and 4 co-edited volumes) while equally active in schools outreach and public engagement, including with the European Research Council-funded LatinNow project.
