Grounds for election

Following a distinguished career as an NHS and academic perinatal pathologist, Phil studied archaeology at Worcester with a dissertation on Iron Age sites on Cleeve Common (Glos.); he continues to contribute to the Priddy Environs Project. His research interests lie in the later prehistoric and Roman archaeology of the Lower Severn Valley. He has published reports on non-invasive investigation of two Gloucestershire Iron Age hillforts and contributed to papers on previously unreported archaeology in the Kingsholm, Gloucester, the site of an early Roman fort. He has been instrumental in making legacy archives from these and other unreported archaeological excavations in Kingsholm available online. He is currently collaborating on a contemporary archaeology project in the Severn Valley. Phil has been Hon Secretary of Gloucestershire Archaeology (GlosArch) since 2019, a role he fills with exemplary efficiency, driving development of GlosArch’s new website and a 25% growth in membership.
