Grounds for election

Sebastian Fry’s grounds for election are for his contributions to heritage protection and academic publications on historic monuments. Sebastian is a Senior Listing Adviser who has worked for Historic England for 19 years; largely for the London and South East Listing Team as a government adviser. He assesses the significance of historic buildings, archaeological sites and landscapes, and advises the government as to which sites are of national significance. Sebastian undertakes some of the highest profile and sensitive casework; most recently Windsor Castle and the Royal Opera House. He has completed over 500 designation assessments and 600 scheduling amendments. Academic publications (among others) include a chapter in the book ‘War and the Historic Environment: The Effect of Conflict from Front Line Ukraine to Historic Namibia’ (2024), an article in The Historic Environment: Policy & Practice Journal, and five English Heritage research volumes on the National Heritage Collection.
