Grounds for election

Sharon DeWitte is a bioarchaeologist whose research examines the developmental, biological, social, and environmental determinants of health in the past in the context of climate change, urbanisation, and global pandemics. Her research uses demographic, pathological, and isotopic data from human skeletal remains and has primarily focused on trends in health and demography in England before, during, and after the first wave of the Second Pandemic of Plague in the 14th-century (now often called the “Black Death”). She has authored or co-authored more than 85 peer-reviewed articles and chapters, co-edited The Bioarchaeology of Urbanization, and is an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
