Grounds for election

Bill has over thirty years’ experience of leading the promotion of access to British archives as the raw material for the study of the past and the creation of historical knowledge. Since 2016 he has been Manager of the Royal Archives at Windsor Castle. Responsible for development and management, he has facilitated first-time scholarly access to unique records including, for example, the Duke of Windsor’s papers. He has been instrumental in expanding archives for display at State and learning events as well as exhibitions in cultural heritage institutions across the world. He has been at the forefront of the development of online archive catalogues for The National Archives, the British Library, and the Royal Archives, where he led the online publication of the Stuart, Cumberland, Georgian and Prince Albert Papers. Bill is professionally active in the International Council of Archives, a Trustee of the Archives and Records Association and an advisor to the Keeper of Public Records.
