Tom Holmes studied archaeology and ancient history at the University of Exeter before commencing a career with Devon and Cornwall Police where he has undertaken a number of high-profile roles and attained the senior rank of superintendent. In 2020, Tom was able to combine his policing and archaeological skills in the development a Heritage Crime Strategy for Devon and Cornwall. Working closely with colleagues at Historic England and the National Police Chiefs’ Council Tom has devised a range of innovative approaches to prevent and investigate crime and anti-social behaviour in the historic environment, both terrestrial and marine, and include the development of the Peninsula Heritage Crime Partnership, bespoke Heritage Watch schemes for Bodmin Moor and Okehampton Castle, and increasing the numbers of police personnel and volunteers who have undertaken the heritage crime training programme. Tom is an inspirational leader with a passion to protect our heritage for future generations.
