Grounds for election
Maria Jordan is a leader in the textile conservation world, a Trustee of the Institute of Conservation and a specialist in delivering long-term, large-scale complex projects. Having worked for Historic Royal Palaces and the National Trust, she is an acknowledged expert in the conservation of state beds, leading teams on the conservation of 17th and 18th century state beds and throne canopies. Her publications include Dye analysis, textiles and text: Unravelling the puzzle of Queen Charlotte’s state bed and Out of the Ashes: The Conservation Trials on the Clandon Park State Bed.
As Head of the National Trust’s Textile Conservation Studio (2016-2021) and the National Conservator for Textiles, Maria was responsible for the conservation of the most significant textiles in the collection. She delivered a paper on the project at the IIC conference in Wellington in 2022, entitled In it for the Long Haul: collaboration and adaptation in the conservation of a 16th century set of tapestries.
