Fraser has worked in British Archaeology since the late 1980s and is now Regional Manager at Oxford Archaeology’s Lancaster office. Over his career, he has worked as a field archaeologist and, since 2006, as project manager on a wide variety of sites including complex infrastructure projects, such as Heathrow Terminal 5, Ronaldsway Airport, IoM, and road schemes in northern England. He has a particular expertise in the excavation of lithic and waterlogged sites employing scientific techniques. Fraser has managed and published numerous reports, most recently (2024) a two-volume monograph on the Carlisle Northern Development Route Mesolithic to post-medieval discoveries. He has a particular interest in the Mesolithic and Neolithic and has led and participated in strategic studies into lithic sites, helping to provide national guidance. He was a PhD Supervisor for a doctorate studentship on the Cumbrian Neolithic transition, a collaboration with the University of Central Lancashire.
