Grounds for election

David Walsh is a Career Development Fellow in the Department of Archaeology, Durham University, having previously been Lecturer in Roman Archaeology at Newcastle University (2022-2024) and Lecturer in Classical and Archaeological Studies at the University of Kent (2017-2020). He specialises in the archaeology of Roman religion, particularly the cult of Mithras, and has published journal articles relating to this topic along with a monograph "Development, Decline and Demise: The Cult of Mithras in Late Antiquity" (Brill, 2018). He has also published articles on the reception of Roman material culture in the works of Rudyard Kipling and Rosemary Sutcliff. He has strong track-record in public engagement, which includes producing and hosting a podcast, Coffee and Circuses (2019-2020), in which he discussed with guests their research on the ancient world, as well as designing a guide to the London Mithraeum for the Bloomberg Connects app.
