Grounds for election
Hannah is Professor of Archaeology & Palaeoecology and Head of the Department of Classics and Archaeology, University of Nottingham. She specialises in the study of bones, non-human and human, and has studied a wide range of taxa and sites from Pleistocene sabre-toothed cats in South Africa to Holocene human cave burials in England. Her early work focused on human evolution with multiple papers in Journal of Human Evolution, Quaternary Science Reviews, Journal of Quaternary Science, etc. More recently she has led the excavation and publication of Dog Hole Cave (O’Regan et al., 2020, Britannia), and the AHRC-funded Box Office Bears project, bringing together zooarchaeology, archives, wrestlers and theatre makers to examine bear-baiting in early modern England (e.g. Wright et al., 2025, Antiquity; Davies et al., 2025, The Seventeenth Century). She is currently examining, amongst other things, the extinction of the brown bear and lynx in Britain.
