Grounds for election

Mr Powell is a career archivist and Archivist to the Buccleuch Estates since 2012, where he looks after the internationally significant archives of the Buccleuch family in England and Scotland, and their major houses Boughton, Dalkeith, Drumlanrig and Bowhill. In this role as well as managing and improving access to this archive, he supports a number of CDAs, formal interns, and other postgraduate research studies over a range subjects, such as architecture, furniture, silver design, map-making, music, the life of Ignatius Sancho, and the Huguenot diaspora, and he has also supported work on historic novels, as well as new house guides, and Country Life articles. Before moving to the Buccleuch Archive, he was for 22 years on the staff of the Northampton Record Office, and before that was a volunteer at the Worcestershire Record Office, where he conducted extensive research on Croome Court. Mr Powell has earned the admiration of historians and researchers across a range of disciplines.
