Ninya Mikhaila's work focus is on meticulous reconstruction based on close study of the original source material, including documentary and visual records as well as extant garments. Clients include
Historic Royal Palaces, The Royal Armouries, The National Trust, English Heritage, The National Archives, Gainsborough’s House and the Coram Foundation.
She is co-author of several books on sixteenth century dress including The Tudor Tailor (2006), The Tudor Child (2013) and The Typical Tudor (2022).
Ninya has written and contributed to several papers published in the journal of the Costume Society, most recently in 2024 with ‘Borne Out with Whalebone: A Late Sixteenth-Century Farthingale Sleeve’ in which she presented her research on a previously unknown survival of Elizabethan dress.
