Dr Darryl Wilkinson is a leading scholar in the archaeology of the Americas, in particular the Andes, specialising in topics ranging from infrastructure on the one hand, to rock art, religion and metaphysics on the other. Before taking up his present appointment, he held post-doctoral positions at the Universities of Cambridge, Wisconsin-Madison and Rutgers. He has conducted rock art and landscape research in the southwestern United States and has ongoing archaeological fieldwork in Peru. His publication in Journal of Archaeological Method and Theory on infrastructure has proven to be agenda setting, and his work on animism and concepts of Inca personhood (published in Journal of the American Academy of Religion and Cambridge Archaeological Journal) are widely cited and discussed. He is also the co-author of Citadels and Cities, a monograph published by Routledge, which is a global study that radically re-examines the engagement between contemporary economic theory and archaeology.
