Since 2014 Rob has held influential roles in public advocacy in the historic environment sector. His research (2012-16) focused on an analysis of its institutions, legislation and policy, and the political context in which it operates. While Secretary to The Archaeology Forum (a UK wide coalition of representative national archaeological organisations) he worked initially with politicians on a review of local authority archaeology services and later with the Council for British Archaeology on developing advocacy capacity amongst their membership. In 2016 he joined the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA) as a policy adviser, and now leads the Institute’s external relations work. Rob is an expert on archaeological legislation and policy, especially the planning system. He leads CIfA’s representation on sector advocacy and policy forums, and the Institute’s advocacy directly to government. Rob has published regularly in the journals of the Institute.
