Grounds for election
Martyn is Director of Development, Communications and Operations for the British Institute at Ankara, one of the eight British International Research Institutes, which operate under the aegis of the British Academy. He oversees the UK/Ankara operations and works with colleagues to develop and lead interdisciplinary projects to meet the Institute’s research objectives. Martyn’s contribution to the sector is his unstinting success in securing funding for large multi-collaborative projects. Recent examples are: Water in Istanbul: Rising to the Challenge?, Safeguarding and Rescuing Archaeological Assets and Lost Landscapes of the Upper Euphrates: A Digital Archive. Martyn has held senior roles in several not-for-profit organisations, including Executive Director of the UK-St Helena Heritage Trust and as Head of Supporter Engagement for a national charity in New Zealand. Martyn is a martial arts instructor, a consultant, and Secretary of the British Association for Near Eastern Archaeology.
