Grounds for election

Ian Mortimer has worked for a succession of archive and historical research organisations, including the Devon Record Office, the universities of Exeter and Reading, and the Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts. He is best known to the public for the highly successful books The Time Traveller’s Guide to Medieval England (2008) and The Time Traveller’s Guide to Elizabethan England (2012); to medievalists for his biographies of four medieval rulers of England, 1327–1415 (2003-9); and for The Dying and the Doctors: the Medical Revolution in Seventeenth-Century England (2009). He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, a member of the Lord Chancellor's Forum on Historical Manuscripts and Academic Research and of the Fabric Advisory Committee of Exeter Cathedral. He continues to advocate the public importance of history, both at a national level and in the community.
