Peter has been York Herald and Librarian at HM College of Arms since 2012 with special responsibility for College mss and archives. He is joint editor of The Coat of Arms, the only English-language peer reviewed scholarly journal for heraldry study, and Vice President of the Association for Genealogists and Researchers in Archives. As Honorary Teaching Fellow at the University of Dundee he devised their heraldry post-graduate course. He has written on the histories of The Electrical Contractors’ Association 1901-2001, the College of Arms, on heralds at the Delhi Durbars, grants of arms in the early eighteenth century, the origin of Jubilees, and on heraldry from the late Seventeenth Century onwards in Nigel Ramsay’s forthcoming Heralds and Heraldry in Shakespeare’s England, along with a number of articles in the genealogical and popular press and online. He is an accomplished lecturer and public face of the College on television with a focus on communicating the past with young people.
