Grounds for election

Dr Flemming has played a leading role in research exploring archaeological sites on the coast or submerged in the sea, and changes of sea level from earthquakes and Ice Ages, over the past 50 years. During that time he has published over 50 papers on this subject, and written and edited numerous technical and academic books, as well as contributing to innumerable academic colloquia and events. In recognition of his distinguished services to science, in 2011 he was awarded the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission 50th Anniversary Medal. Most recently, he has been the lead UK member of the SPLASHCOS EU COST Action to study European seabed prehistoric landscapes, including editing the SPLASHCOS book on the European Continental Shelf Taphonomy of Prehistoric Sites. In 2014 he also co-edited the book Prehistoric Archaeology on the Continental Shelf with Amanda Evans and Fellow Joe Flatman.
