Robert Morkot is an Egyptologist with a wide range of interests, and a portfolio of administrative positions that includes chairing the Council of the Society of Libyan Studies. He is a Vice-President of the Friends of the Petrie Museum, UCL, and was formerly a Trustee of the Egypt Exploration Society. Morkot is a leading authority on the relationship between Pharaonic Egypt and Nubia (Kush), and on the 25th Dynasty. His other main areas of interest are Egypt and Libya, the historiography of Egypt and the reception of antiquity in Western Europe. His PhD ‘Economic and cultural exchange between Kush and Egypt’ (UCL) examined the relationship between the two regions from the Egyptian expansion in the early 18th Dynasty to the rise of the Kushite state, and presented a new view of that which was summarised in a series of academic papers and in The Black Pharaohs: Egypt’s Nubian rulers. London: Rubicon Press, 2000. He has many other published papers to his name.
