Grounds for election

Virginia Davis has shown outstanding skill in the field of late medieval English church history. Her register of over 30,000 records of clergy ordained in the diocese of London from 1361 to 1539, available on CD in machine-readable form, is a remarkable pioneering work of immense value, called by one reviewer 'an extensive research source for everyone interested in the late medieval English church.' In addition to over twenty articles and book chapters she has published studies of two influential bishops of Winchester - Wykeham and Waynflete - that go beyond their roles in the founding of Oxford colleges to show them in the wider life of their times. She is currently researching the role of household chaplains in royal and aristocratic service, particularly during Henry V's Agincourt campaign in 1415.
