Grounds for election

Wiltshire county local studies librarian, 1979-88. Freelance since 1988: work has included part-time extra-mural lecturing (Univ Bristol, WEA); documentary research for several hundred archaeological assessments, for Wessex Archaeology, AC Archaeology and others, some published in county journals; publisher (as Hobnob Press) of around a hundred books of local and regional history, mostly Wiltshire and Dorset, 2001 to date; spells as co-editor of Wilts Arch & NH Mag; and general editor, Wilts Record Soc; editorial work for VCH in Wilts and Herefordshire; since 2011 county editor VCH Gloucestershire.Principal publications include, Endless Street [a social history of Salisbury], 1983; Marlborough and Eastern Wiltshire, 2001; Devizes and Central Wiltshire, 2003; editions of John Leland's Itinerary and John Taylor's travels; Wiltshire dissenters' meeting-house certificates, and contributions to other WRS volumes; various short histories and studies of places in Wiltshire and Dorset
