Will Poole has been Galsworthy Fellow in English Literature at New College, Oxford, since 2004. He is a bibliographer, critic, historian of the book, and historian of science. His interests encompass the intellectual history of the sixteenth, seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries; he has published numerous articles on book- and printing-history, the history of libraries, early-modern science, and early-modern orientalism. The theme that unites his research is the desire to understand early-modern intellectual culture in its material aspects. He is knowledgeable about early Fellows of this Society. His interest in Edward Lhuyd led to his rediscovery of Lhuyd's own natural-history specimens. An edition of John Aubrey's correspondence is forthcoming. Other books include The World-Makers: Scientists of the Restoration and the Search for the Origins of the Earth (2010), and Milton and the Idea of the Fall (2005). He is Editor of the journal of the Bibliographical Society, The Library.
