Adrian is an archaeologist with a particular expertise in integrated approaches to the conservation management of the historic and natural environment. He worked on the MARS Survey and was instrumental in the creation of the Colchester UAD. He has produced many reports on historic landscape management for English Heritage, National Trust, City of London, RSPB and other agencies, and published on the archaeology of Colchester and the medieval and post-medieval landscape of Essex. He has prepared numerous conservation management plans including for the Colchester Iron Age Dykes and Rayleigh Castle. He has been at the forefront of the use of Historic Environment Characterisation in both the planning process and landscape management, for example in the Essex Historic Grazing Marsh Project. He manages a multi-disciplinary team at Essex County Council, including archaeologists and conservation officers, delivering planning and management advice to Local Authorities and other bodies.
