Grounds for election

Dr Carter has made a significant and important contribution to the study of the late medieval monastic church, and particularly the Cistercian order, in terms of historical, architectural and artifactual study and documentary research. He is now a well established scholar in this difficult area of study. He has published critically and widely with some 20 peer-reviewed papers published or in press since 2009. Additionally he has presented significant and well-received papers at both national and international conferences. His PhD thesis 'The Art and Architecture of the Cistercians in northern England in the late Middle Ages (c. 1300-1539) (Courtauld Institute of Art 2013) is of particular importance.
