Grounds for election
Pierre du Prey is a prominent scholar of the history of architecture from the antique world to the present, with a particular emphasis on the classical tradition. Educated at Princeton and currently Professor Emeritus at Queen’s University, Pierre has written extensively on the history of architecture, including John Soane’s Architectural Education 1753-80 (1977); John Soane: The Making of an Architect (1982); Catalogue of Architectural Drawings in the Victoria and Albert Museum: Sir John Soane (1985); The Villas of Pliny, from Antiquity to Posterity (1994); Hawksmoor’s London Churches: Architecture and Theology (2000); and a number of catalogues on Canadian architecture. He has held fellowships at the British Academy at Rome and at Dumbarton Oaks in Washington. Pierre was the dedicatee of a recent festschrift volume (2014) entitled Tributes to Pierre du Prey: Architecture and the Classical Tradition, from Antiquity to Posterity, edited by Matthew M Reeve (FSA).
