After completing a PhD on the abbey of Pontigny at Indiana University, Prof. Kinder has continued to make a considerable contribution to Cistercian studies through her published books, including 'Cistercian Europe', and 'The Architecture of Silence: Cistercian Architecture in France' and has published numerous articles in the periodic literature. She has been editor-in-chief of 'Citeaux, commentarii cistercienses' for a considerable number of years, and is a Distinguished Visiting Professor in Art History at St Michael's College, Colchester, Vermont.
