Grounds for election

Lesley McFadyen is European prehistorian, specialising in the later prehistory (Mesolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Age) of Britain, France and Portugal. Dr McFadyen has worked extensively in developer-funded archaeology in Britain, focusing especially on the excavation of prehistoric landscapes in East Anglia while working for the Cambridge Archaeology Unit and. Other field projects have included Neolithic houses on Orkney and in Normandy; Neolithic long barrows in Dorset, Normandy and Brittany; and Chalcolithic walled enclosures in the Alto Douro of Portugal. Through a series of international publications, Dr McFadyen's research has contributed both empirically and theoretically to the study of the archaeology of architecture and building, most notably in her extensive fieldwork at Chalcolithic Portuguese sites. After holding Research Fellowships at the Universities of Leicester, Cambridge, Cardiff and Porto, Dr McFadyen took up a Lectureship in Archaeology at Birkbeck in 2011.
