Grounds for election

Cameron Newham has made an outstanding contribution to recording English parish churches and their furnishings. His Digital Atlas of England project now consists of over 420,000 photographs of over 8200 churches (see Newham, ‘Creating a digital atlas of English architecture’, Ecclesiology Today, 39, 2007; and ‘Towards an inventory of church monuments…’, Church Monuments, 24, 2009). His aim to photograph all rural Anglican churches in England is now 80% complete. 50,000 photographs are already available on an online searchable database (http://www.digiatlas.org) and have been made available to authors of many scholarly publications, including R Rosewell, Medieval Wall Paintings (Boydell 2008), and S Badham, Seeking Salvation… (Shaun Tyas, forthcoming). Newham’s publications also include: ‘The Turner monument in Therfield church (Herts)’, Church Monuments, 27, 2012 ‘The Book of Effigies I & II’ (DAE Publishing, 2013 & 2014) comprising his own photographs of English monumental effigies.
