Grounds for election

Colin Adams is a distinguished ancient historian specializing in Roman economic history, chiefly in the province of Egypt. His special interests are the role of transport and the dynamics of bureaucracy; his 2007 monograph on the subject received very favourable reviews. He has also worked on travel and geographical space (two co-edited volumes), the Roman army in Egypt, and natural resources in Egypt; and is completing a monograph on the Chester Beatty papyri from Panopolis, which provide a wide range of evidence for late Roman Egypt and Roman provincial administration. Before his appointment to Liverpool in 2005 he held a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship at Warwick and a Lecturership at Leicester.
