Has established record in early medieval archaeology (England and the Low Countries). PhD research pioneered a material culture approach to early medieval urban archaeology. Numerous publications, including in The Mediaeval Journal, Anglo-Saxon Studies in Archaeology and History and Medieval Archaeology. Contributions to study of coastal landscapes in the Low Countries in Viking Age, results published and in press. Early medieval specialist for the ‘big data’ landscape project at the Institute of Archaeology, Oxford; preliminary short papers in Antiquity and elsewhere. Contributed papers to a wide range of national and international conferences since 2002, and presented academic lectures at a range of international venues including at the UCL/British Museum; Universities of Cambridge and Oxford, the Free University Brussels, and Charles University. Contributes to the dissemination of archaeological and historical knowledge to the general public
