Grounds for election

Dr Giles is a leading expert in European, particularly British, late Bronze Age through to late Iron Age archaeology. Her research interests are in landscape archaeology, funerary practice (especially the chariot burials of Britain and bog bodies of North-Western Europe) and social identity (including the controversial topic of the 'Celts'). She has published extensively in her field, with a notable publication being her monograph "A forged glamour: landscape, identity and material culture in the Iron Age" (Oxford: Windgather Press, 2012), and has curated several exhibitions, including on Bog Bodies, and Whitworth Park (Manchester) at the Manchester Museum. Prior to teaching at the University of Manchester, she taught at the Universities of Leicester and University College Dublin. Her current research is focusing upon researching the history of archaeology through studies of antiquarians such as 'John Mortimer' and his museum in Driffield, East Yorkshire.
