Dr Rob Hosfield is an Associate Professor in Palaeolithic Archaeology at the University of Reading and a leader in this field of archaeological enquiry. Hosfield took his first degree in archaeology at the University of Southampton and completed his PhD there in 1998. His research focus is in Lower Palaeolithic stone technology which he combines with expertise in Pleistocene geoarchaeology and site formation processes. His research also extends to experimental archaeology and the application of GIS to Palaeolithic research questions. He has undertaken fieldwork at the sites of Broom, Corfe Mullen, Knowle Farm, Afon Ystwyth in the UK and the Wadi Muqadam in Sudan. Among his publications are Quaternary History and Palaeolithic Archaeology in the Axe Valley at Broom, South West England (edited with C.P.Green 2013) and ‘The Broom biface assemblage’ in Proceedings of the Prehistoric Society (with J.Chambers 2009). In 1999 he was awarded a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship.
