Grounds for election

James Peill is the leading English expert in Irish country houses, furniture and collections. He has published two books on the subject together with the (late) Knight of Glin: 'Irish Furniture, Woodwork and Carving in Ireland from the Earliest Times to the Act of Union', Yale, 2007; and 'The Irish Country House', Vendome Press (New York) and Thames & Hudson (London), 2010. He also has specialist knowledge of English country houses, paintings and collections, and with the latter paired publishers produced 'The English Country House', 2013. He has written further chapters in other books on related subjects. James Peill was formerly a specialist and Director in the Furniture Department at Christie’s (1994-2009), and at Christie's New York (2006-2009). Every year at Goodwood he produces a superb exhibition, using a wide variety of fascinating objects, supported by works of art, books and photographs, to illustrate a particular historical subject. He is a true antiquary.
