Grounds for election

Peter Ellis is internationally renowned for his analysis of historic mortars, plasters and renders. After training and working as a paintings conservator he developed skills in traditional building methods and materials to be used for conservation and the repair of historic and traditional buildings. He has contributed to the revised English Heritage Practical Conservation series and published numerous articles on the analysis and composition of traditional mortars. He has acted as consultant on major projects for heritage bodies including English Heritage (Eltham Palace), Historic Royal Palaces (Hampton Court, Tower of London, Kew Palace), the National Trust (Castle Drogo), and major buildings worldwide, including cathedrals (St Paul’s, Canterbury, Christchurch New Zealand). The analytical procedures that he has developed have vastly increased the understanding of historic building materials.
