Grounds for election

Hauser is a historical archaeologist specializing in materiality, slavery and inequality in the 17th, 18th and 19th-century Atlantic and Indian Oceans, using ethnohistorical, archaeological, and archaeometric approaches to study how people adapt to landscapes of inequality and contribute to such landscapes in material ways. He also has research interests in 18th-century Southern India and 19th-century North America. His publications include An Archaeology Of Black Markets: Local Ceramics And Local Economies in Eighteenth-Century Jamaica (U Press of Florida, 2008), Out Of Many, One: Historical Archaeology of Colonial Jamaica (ed. with J.A. Delle & D.V. Armstrong; U Alabama Press, 2011), Islands at the Crossroads: Migration, Seafaring, and Interaction in the Caribbean (ed. with L. A. Curet; U Alabama Press, 2011) and articles in American Anthropologist, Current Anthropology, International Journal of Historical Archaeology, Journal of Social Archaeology, Journal of Atlantic Studies.
