Grounds for election

An early career as a museum curator led to Assistant Directorship of the Area Museums Service for SE England. She became Director of the Textile Conservation Centre in 1991, raising £3m to move the Centre from Hampton Court Palace to Southampton University in 1999, and £750k to recreate it as the Centre for Textile Conservation within Glasgow University in 2009, from where it offers a world-leading programme in textile conservation and research, and the only course in textile conservation in the UK. Appointed MBE in 2003 for services to museums and textile conservation, she is a Fellow of the Museums Association and International Institute of Conservation. Since 2010, she has continued to support the Textile Conservation Foundation and set up a consultancy in trust management, fundraising and heritage. She currently runs the National Manuscripts Conservation Trust and advises the Friends of the National Libraries, Historic Chapels Trust and numerous Heritage Lottery Fund projects.
