Grounds for election
David worked in the Royal Armouries from 1982 to 2008 and was part of the team that created the new RA Museum in Leeds. He then established a museum consultancy. He has authored articles on aspects of military history and arms and armour and has written three books: Arms and Armour of the English Civil Wars, (London, 1990); British Cavalry of the Mid-18th Century, (Nottingham, 2008); and Destructive and Formidable: British Infantry Firepower, 1642 to 1765 (Barnsley, 2014), based on his PhD thesis. While at the Royal Armouries he was also responsible for curating six exhibitions including two relating to the Civil Wars and one major one at Jamestown, Virginia in 2000 - Arms and Armour in 17th century Virginia.. He is a member of the advisory panel for the new National Civil War Centre in Newark and is currently researching for sequels to his books on British cavalry and infantry firepower to take these topics up to 1815.
