Peter Jones, Fellow and Librarian, King’s College, Cambridge since 1985, formerly in the Dept. of Manuscripts, British Library, and Beinecke-Whitney Fellow, Yale Univ., is a highly respected scholar of medieval medical texts and illustration. His Medieval Medicine in Illuminated Manuscripts (1998) remains the authoritative treatment of the subject. He is the foremost scholar on the Latin and English writings of John Arderne, 14th-century English surgeon, and he published De arte phisicali et de cirurgia by Arderne in 2014. He has published on other medieval English physicians, amulets, and charms. Jones also curated major exhibitions: ‘The Art of Medicine’, Yale Univ. libraries, April 2004; and ‘The Cambridge Illuminations’, Fitzwilliam Museum and Cambridge Univ. Library, 2005 (co-curator). He was a Principal Investigator on the Wellcome Trust-funded Project ‘From Generation to Reproduction’, Dept. of History and Philosophy of Science, Cambridge Univ., 2009-15.
