Susan Rotroff until recently held the Jarvis Thurston & Mona Van Duyn chair at Washington University, Saint Louis, where she is currently professor emerita. Earlier she held posts at Mount Allison University (Canada) and Hunter College, New York. She has received a MacArthur Fellowship and the Gold Medal of the Archaeological Institute of America. As one of the leading experts on Greek ceramics of the Hellenistic period, she has made crucial contributions to the study of Classical to Early Roman finds from the Athenian Agora (single-handedly authoring three volumes in the site’s monograph series) and Sardis. She is best known for her ground-breaking work on Hellenistic ceramic chronology, but has also written extensively on the artistic and cultural significance of mould-made wares, and the potential of material culture to illuminate the Hellenistic period. She is a Corresponding Member of both the Deutsches Archäologisches Institut and the Österreichisches Archäologisches Institut.
