Dr Michael Hall is a consultant curator in the Department of Sculpture and Decorative Arts at the J.Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. He is also curator and trustee of the Rothschild collection at Exbury House in Hampshire. He received his first degree in History and History of Art at UCL in 1980, followed by an MPhil from the Courtauld Institute. He gained his PhD from the Courtauld in 2005, writing about Baron Lionel de Rothschild as a collector of paintings. Finally he received an MA from SOAS on Mughal decorative arts. He was curator to H.H. the Rajmata of Jaipur until her death in 2009. He has been a Visiting Fellow and Museum Scholar at the Getty Research Institute and was J.Clawson Mills Fellow at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. He is also Curator Emeritus to the Lord Mayor of London. His interests include collecting, the decorative arts of France, gold boxes and all aspects of the Rothschild family. He collects French porcelain and modern British prints.
