Grounds for election

Peter Davidson has enjoyed a distinguished academic career, mainly at the University of Aberdeen, where he was until 2015 the Professor of Renaissance Studies. He is now Senior Research Fellow and Keeper of College Archives and Collections at Campion Hall, Oxford. Professor Davidson has published extensively on English Renaissance literature and on Catholicism in British life and culture. Recent publications include The Universal Baroque (2007), Distance and Memory: Essays on Northern Place (2013) and The Celebrated Museum of the Roman College of the Society of Jesus (2015), a facsimile edition of the 1678 catalogue of the Kircher museum in Rome. He is a board member of British Catholic History (CUP) and a Trustee of the Scottish Catholic Historical Collections Trust. His current projects are an edition of the Complete Prose of S. Robert Southwell SJ, and a reconstructed edition of the antiquarian and dealer James Byres' Hypogaei, or Sepulchral Caverns of Etruria.
