Grounds for election

Professor Alison Betts is a Fellow of the Australian Humanities Academy with expertise in the archaeology of the Levant, Ancient Khorezem, the Bronze Age of Eurasia and Western China and Silk Road Studies. She has conducted three major field projects in Eastern Jordan, all with a focus on prehistory, hunting, rock art and the rise of nomadic pastoralism. She currently co-directs two major international collaborative projects. In Uzbekistan she leads the Karakalpak-Australian Expedition with Prof. Vadim N. Yagodin of the Uzbek Academy of Sciences. In China, together with Dr Jia Weiming, University of Sydney, she is studying the later history of Xingjiang, in collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. She has published four co-authored monographs and three edited works on various aspects of archaeological fieldwork, over fifty articles in academic journals, more than twenty five book chapters and numerous conference papers.
