Dr Stephen Mills is a specialist in the application of digital techniques and facilities to enhance the study of the archaeological past. His doctoral research background lay in the Neolithic of the Balkans, but he has worked in many collaborative projects incorporating these skills, particularly in auditory reconstruction, over a very wide field, in Egypt from the pharaonic period to the First World War, the major research project at Catalhöyük, to industrial South Wales. His recent book 'Auditory Archaeology: Understanding Sound and Hearing in the Past' (2014) explored the significance of everyday sounds in interpreted both prehistoric and historical landscape contexts and human-animal interactions. He has been Assistant Director of the Southern Romania Archaeology Project focussing on the Teleorman Valley, since 1998. In fieldwork, he has supported many projects, large and small, international and local, through his ability to undertake, guide and teach GIS techniques.
