Grounds for election

Maria Medlycott is an archaeologist with a specialist interest in Roman and Medieval settlement. She carried out the Historic Town Survey for Essex, comprising a survey and assessment of the archaeology and history of 32 towns and the formulation of planning policies. She subsequently adapted the methodology to examine village scale settlements in their landscape setting to inform conservation and management. Maria played a key role in the revision of the Regional Archaeological Research Framework for the East of England, and has developed close working relationships with the voluntary sector. As well as publishing her own fieldwork, her supportive and collaborative approach to both professional and amateur colleagues, has led to the publication of many backlog reports. Maria’s numerous publications include; The Roman Town of Great Chesterford; Archaeological Fieldwalking in Essex 1985-2005, and A Medieval Farm and Landscape: Excavations at Stebbingford, Felsted.
