Grounds for election

Andrew Peacock is currently Reader in Middle Eastern History at the University of St Andrews; he was previously Assistant Director of the British Institute of Archaeology at Ankara (2007-2011) and British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Cambridge (2004-2007). His research focuses on the medieval Islamic history of the Middle East and Central Asia, Islamic manuscripts and inscriptions, with a particular emphasis on the Turco-Persian world. His major publications are Mediaeval Islamic Historiography and Political Legitimacy (Routledge, 2007), Early Seljuq History (Routledge, 2010) and The Great Seljuk Empire (Edinburgh University Press, 2015); he has edited or coedited a further six volumes on aspects of Islamic history and archaeology. He is Principal Investigator of a major project funded by the European Research Council to survey the medieval manuscript Islamic heritage of Anatolia, The Islamisation of Anatolia c. 1100-1500.
