Grounds for election

David Nicolle worked for BBC Television News (1963-1967) and transferred to the BBC Overseas Broadcasting Arabic Service as a topical talks writer (1967-1971). After his Edinburgh Phd. he was Lecturer in art history at Yarmouk University, Jordan (1983-1987). He has published about 100 academic books and articles on a range of subjects, most illustrated with his own photos and drawings, many of outstanding scholarship. (A bibliography is available). Since the mid-1990s his primary research with French and Syrian teams has been on archaeological finds of early Mamluk and Ottoman military equipment in Syria. Dr. Nicolle's first volume in the series ‘Traveax et Études de la Mission Archéologique Syro-Française Citadelle de Damas (1999-2006) is ‘Late Mamluk Military Equipment’. (2011).‘Ouvrage publié avec le concours du Ministère des Affairs Étrangères et Européennes et Centre national de la recherché scientific’. A subsequent volume is delayed by the Civil War.
