Professor Jane Lydon holds the inaugural Wesfarmers Chair in Australian History at the University of Western Australia and is an Australian Research Council Fellow. She is an outstanding scholar who has made a major contribution to a wide range of fields, including archaeology, Australian Studies, urban and rural history, and both cultural and heritage studies. She has made a major contribution to understandings of Australia's past by exploring colonial visual cultures, exploring how images have shaped ideas and debates about race, identity and culture. She leads the ARC-funded project 'Globalisation, Photography and Race, in which photographs are documented, given their historical context and copies provided to Indigenous descendants. A prolific writer, her major award-winning publications include 'The Flash of Recognition'(2012, New South Books, Sydney) and 'Fantastic Dreaming: the Archaeology of an Australian Aboriginal Mission' (2009, Altamira, Langham MD).
