Grounds for election

Dr Cecily Hennessy is currently Senior Lecturer and Head of Antiquity to Renaissance at Christie’s Education, London. She received her PhD from the Courtauld Institute in 2001. She has published a book titled Images of Children in Byzantium (2008) and a guide to the paintings in Cappadocia (2013). She has also published many essays and articles on middle and late Byzantine manuscripts, the topography and paintings of Constantinople and Jerusalem, and on children and the family in Byzantium. Recent research includes ‘Patronage and Precedents: Galla Placidia’s chapel in Ravenna and the Holy Apostles, Constantinople’, Byzantinoslavica, forthcoming 2016; ‘The Vatican Epithalamion’, in A Companion to Byzantine Illustrated Manuscripts, ed. V. Tsamakda, Leiden, forthcoming 2016/17; and ‘Representations and roles of adolescence with a focus on apocryphal imagery’, in Coming of Age. Adolescence and Society in Byzantium, Millenium Studies, Despoina Ariantzi (ed.), Berlin, forthcoming 2016.
