Grounds for election

Emeritus Professor Adrian Seville studies the cultural history of printed board games, especially the mediaeval Game of the Goose and its many variants throughout Europe from the late 16th C. He read Physics as an Open Scholar at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, going on to a PhD at the University of Edinburgh, before joining the academic staff of City University, London. In mid-career, he moved into management of the university, becoming Academic Registrar. Following early retirement, he concentrates on collecting historic board games to museum standard, and lecturing on them in Europe (including seminars for the Institute of Advanced Study, Senate House, London) and in America, where a full public exhibition of his games opens in 2016, at the Grolier Club of New York. Apart from articles on game history, he has published on cartographic games; the games of Waddesdon Manor; and novel statistical approaches to collecting. His scholarly catalogue for the Grolier exhibition is now in press.
