Grounds for election

Founder and Chairman of the Hergest Trust (holding a large collection of correspondence with James Watt, Sir George Cornewall Lewis and the Alford family, among others). Chairman of the Sir Joseph Banks Archive project 2002 to 2015. A trustee of the Mappa Mundi Trust (Hereford Cathedral) and involved in saving it from sale in 1985. A trustee of the Chevening Trust from 1978 and Chairman of its Finance and General Purposes Committee until 2008; involved in the restoration of the house, pictures and furnishings and research into their history. Closely involved in the Cambrian Archaeological Association and The Woolhope Club (Herefordshire). Elected an Honorary Fellow of the Linnaean Society in 2014.
